Tricks of The Trade....Some Important Bridal Advice

I work in and industry that allows me to interact with hundreds of brides in a week so I have heard a lot of good and bad with wedding planning. Whenever I hear a bride say "It cost that much!" or "I was suppose to order that when?!" I immediately think....HOW DID SHE NOT KNOW THAT. Then I realize that most brides as well as friends and family only get married once (I HOPE). I just have a better idea of when and how things should be done since I deal with brides all day and sometimes at night in my dreams.

Here are a few tips for Brides to Be or friends of Brides to BE.

* Don't bring too many opinions with you when you go to pick out your dress!
This is very important! I have seen brides cry, mothers cry and mean things said by friends when too many opinions get thrown out. Remember.....even though you may not like the peacock feathers or 50 layers of tulle on the brides dress, keep in mind that this is her day and you either had or will have yours.

*Eat something before you go into a bridal consultation or fitting:
Who wants to feint when trying on their dream dress??? More importantly who wants to deal with a bride that feinted....Just kidding. I would bring water and fans to any of my friends that feinted :).

* Stay in shape but don't go overboard:
Most brides want to look their best on their wedding day....not only for their husband to be but for the hundreds of people (some they don't even know) who's eyes are one them that day. Don't stress and lose to much weight before your wedding. Your husband to be purposed to you the way you were so I'm sure he will love you if you stay that weight. I am not saying don't be healthy and fit, I am just informing brides to be realistic with weight loss goals and don't be too hard on yourself trying to look your best.

My favorite at home Abs workout from exercise T.V.

* Pick out your shoes before your fitting:
You will not have a happy fitter if you show up the day of your dress fitting without shoes. There is no way a fitter can alter the length of your dress if you do not know your shoe height so you will have wasted yours as well as her/ or his time. The perfect shoe does not have to be chosen quite yet just make sure you bring a shoe with the right heel height. Average heel height is 3.75-4.75 inches.....don't be afraid to go higher or lower.

If the SHOE fits.....BUY IT!!!.....Well only if you love it <3

* Order the veil at least 6 months before the wedding:
Brides seem to show up at their fittings which tend to be a month before the wedding and they are unsure if they are going to wear a veil. This can be a problem because most veils take 8-18 to come in especially if there are being made oversees. Plan ahead. NEVER buy your veil without the dress on. This can lead to a disaster. I have seen to many upset brides realize that their dress is ivory and the "cheap" veil they bought somewhere else is white. The bridal consultant should be happy to give you a fabric swatch of your dress if you plan on getting your veil elsewhere. Just make sure you don't hold this decision off.

Best Wedding Movies....according to me

I am a sucker for chick flicks...that I am. I love classic romance that include all the basics of falling in love. If I make someone in my family watch Sleepless in Seattle or My Best Friends Wedding one more time they are going to go insane!! (i also love Free Willy and E.T. and no one wants to watch it).....but when it comes to wedding movies I'm IN LOVE! Here are some of the greatest out there along with some clips.

Fall and Halloween Themed Wedding Desserts

A wedding cake to me is one of the most important decorations at a wedding. Whether or not you like cake or sweets it is important to carry on the theme of one wedding with the cake. This is coming from someone who loves to bake.....so I may be a bit biased with how important this is to a wedding. Food is all about beauty and presentation and if you are going to spend money on a cake you might as well get your moneys worth.

Here are a few amazing wedding cakes for fall as well as Halloween. I have also included pictures of fun dessert ideas aside from a wedding cake for the fall season.

My Favorite Wedding Things !!!

I'm not shy to say that I have been looking at Bridal Magazine since I could ride my bike to Walgreens and buy them......yes I did do that. I remember buying a wedding  magazine once when I was 12 and the lady at the counter said "Oh are You getting married?" and I replied "Can't a single girl dream!"

Yes I love everything about weddings but DRESSES are my favorite part of course. I bleed fashion so I am intrigued by wedding designers, fabrics and silhouettes. Do you all remember the music video for 98 degrees "I DO"???? Well that wedding dress used to be my absolute favorite!  (Video Below to refresh your memory)......not anymore.

Times have changed my friends and so have dresses and head pieces, however, class has not so. Some wedding dresses do go out of style but Timeless dresses are the ones I love and I hope you enjoy some of my favorites!

This is just the bare minimum....I'll get into silhouettes and fabrics next time! ENJOY!!!

Shoe Heaven

Aruna Seth may just be one of my new favorite up and coming shoes designers. Americans might not recognize her name but she is quite a big name over in the United Kingdom. She is the shoe designer who designed Pippa Middletons shoes for the Royal Wedding.

I met her today and she is the biggest sweet heart!!! She brought so many of her wonderful shoes to show including hot pink heels, Swarovski covered pumps and her infamous Butterfly pendant shoes.

VEGAS WEDDINGS!!!

Yes!!! People are still having Vegas weddings. I worked with a bride today who is getting married in Vegas and is actually wearing a traditional dress and having a more traditional wedding. Most people assume that Vegas Weddings involve Elvis and Star Trek themes...... the times have changed my friends. People love Vegas for its Glitz and Glam so why can't people bring their wedding with "class" to the city. If you love Sin City and still want to be a classy bride do not be ashamed to perform you NUPTIALS in this fabulous destination. There are so many great places that you can have a traditional wedding yet still have fun and gamble.

Favorite Bridal Experience of the Day:

Today I worked with a bride that made me almost as excited as she was about her dress. Nothing completes a look better than the perfect accessory. Her dress was Hollywood Glamour with a mix of vintage lace. I handed her a pair of oversized flower stud earrings and when she put them on she jumped with joy and excitement and told me and her friend "I finally feel like a bride!". She couldn't stop smiling and telling me how happy and excited she was about her dress and she couldn't wait to be married. Who knew a pair of earrings would make someone that happy.

I find that brides stress out quite a bit right before the wedding day. Some brides have so much going on that they just need to step back, look in the mirror and trust that everything will all work out.

People get married and have weddings for all different reasons. Most importantly you get married for Love and I could tell this bride was truly in it for love. I didn't know much about her but I could just tell and it made me realize I helped one more bride make her FAIRYTALE come true.

Fun facts about Fall Weddings

So as the leaves change and the days get shorter the wedding season is also coming to a change. Back in June during peak season we had about 150 appointments a day and now we are down to about 70. Everyone seems to get married in the summer months however, with the weather we have been having in NYC I think a Fall wedding is quite lovely.

Everyone is so busy attending weddings in the summer as well as other vacation plans that sometimes it is nice to find out someone is having their big day in the Fall. The most popular wedding date this Fall seems to be 11/11/11 . Weather permitting this could be good or bad in the Midwest or East Coast.

Here are a few popular trends I have picked up on while working in this industry:

Fall Trends:
* Popular bridesmaids colors are Grey, Slate, Navy and Eggplant. I did have a few brides choose brown although not so popular now.

* White and Ivory shoes are not the norm now. There is no right or wrong for shoe color, height or texture. Brides seem to love sparkle and designer brands for their big day. Why not splurge!? (I'll post some shoes I've seen).

Love her or hate her but Ivanka Trump is Hot for Weddings

* The Kim Kardashian Look is not a a hit. NOONE is asking for her look.....WHAT WAS THAT HEAD PIENCE!

* Jewelery with Golden Shadow and Clear Crystal is popping up all over the market. This color combination looks great with and Ivory dress and it isn't to BLING BLING for those brides that prefer simple.

Finally Settled in NYC

Hello Everyone!
I have decided to share my love of Fashion, Brides and NYC with everyone willing to read. I have only been working in the bridal industry for a short time now but I feel like I know more about weddings and Brides then most people getting married do. I feel like I have seen it all so far yet I know I have so much to learn. I work with brides and beautiful dresses all day long and I would love to share my wonderful daily adventures and knowledge I learn from my life in NYC.

I have been in NYC now for almost 8 months. With little help of how to get a job, where to live or how to survive in this city....I have managed to do it so far. How you may ask??? Friends, Family....Wine. What can I say I love wine it seems to relax me after a day in this CRAZY yet AMAZING city.

I <3 NYC

Hello Beautiful
Dress by Monique lhuillier
I knew I wanted to live in NYC so I made it happen. After 5 months of creating over 1300 girls into the princess of their dreams at the Happiest Place on Earth I took the smile that Disney implanted on my face and headed to what some may say is the MOST UNHAPPY place on earth....NYC. Although my smile may have left my face every once in awhile (like the time I found out what NYC rent was) I have managed to stay positive and now I am doing what I love by creating real life Princess and Fairytales come true.

So stay tuned to my blog and you'll learn about weddings, fashion, NYC and my daily life through pictures, links and my own personal advice and stories.
